# Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF editor in React: Office inside your app

> A visual document editor for React that opens and saves .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and .pdf in the browser, with no document server: an alternative to ONLYOFFICE, Collabora and Univer.

To let your users open and edit Office documents **visually**, as in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, inside your React app,
use Doconda's editor plugin (`@doconda/editor`). It is one component with four editors (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and
PDF) that opens the file, lets users edit it with Office-like toolbars and saves it again in the same format. Everything
happens in the browser: there is no document server to deploy.

```tsx theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark-dimmed"}}
import { DocondaEditor } from "@doconda/editor"
<DocondaEditor src="/files/contract.docx" licenseKey="ek_eu_…" onSave={(bytes) => upload(bytes)} />
```

The format comes from the extension (`.docx`, `.xlsx`, `.pptx`, `.pdf`) or from `format`.

## What each one edits

| Editor | What users can do |
| - | - |
| Word (.docx) | Paragraph styles, fonts, colours, lists, tables, pictures, links, columns, find and replace, comments |
| Excel (.xlsx) | Cells and formulas that calculate, number formats, borders, merged cells, rows and columns, several sheets |
| PowerPoint (.pptx) | Slides, text boxes, shapes, pictures, notes and full-screen presenting |
| PDF | Fill in forms, sign, annotate, comment and organize pages |

Whatever the editor cannot edit is saved as it was: the file is still a normal Office file.

In Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the ✨ button opens an AI assistant: the user asks for changes in plain language and
accepts or discards them. See [edit with AI inside your app](/en/answers/editor-ai-assistant).

## Compared with other options

| | Doconda | [ONLYOFFICE Docs](/en/compare/onlyoffice) | [Collabora Online](/en/compare/collabora) | [Univer](/en/compare/univer) |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| Document server | No | Yes | Yes | To import and export Office files |
| Format | The file (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .pdf) | The file | The file | Its own data model |
| Integration | One React component | Server + component | Server (WOPI) | SDK |
| Real-time co-editing | No | Yes | Yes | Yes (Pro) |
| AI assistant | Included, no keys | With your own provider key | With your own provider key | Its platform for agents |

If you need several people co-editing in real time, look at ONLYOFFICE or Collabora. If you want each user to open, edit
and save their document inside your product, with one dependency and no servers to run, Doconda is the most direct.

## With the Doconda API

If your AI agent creates the documents with the [Doconda API](/en/introduction), the editor lets your users polish them
in your app before sending them; see [let your users edit what your agent creates](/en/answers/ai-generated-documents-editor).

Start with the [editor plugin](/en/editor/introduction).
