# Doconda vs Aspose

> Aspose offers full APIs to manipulate and convert documents in code; Doconda creates, reviews and edits documents from an instruction.

**Use Aspose** (Aspose.Words, Aspose.Cells, Aspose.Slides) if you need to manipulate and convert documents in low-level
code, on your own server, with .NET, Java, C++, Python or Node.js. **Use Doconda** if you want to ask for the finished
document or the change in plain language, from an app or an AI agent, and pay per delivered document.

## Comparison

| | Aspose | Doconda |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | Families of APIs to create, modify and convert Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF, as libraries (on-premise) and as cloud REST APIs | API (with Python and TypeScript SDKs and an MCP server) that creates, reviews and edits documents |
| Create | In code, element by element | From a sentence (`prompt`) or your Markdown (`content`), with the style described in plain text |
| Edit existing files | Yes, in code | Yes: you describe the change and the rest stays the same; in Word also with tracked changes and comments |
| Review and repair | You code the checks | [Review](/en/guides/review) returns the same file fixed plus a report, without changing your text or values |
| PDF | Yes; Aspose.Words has a layout engine that mimics Microsoft Word's | Every file comes with its PDF |
| Formats | Very broad: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and many conversion formats | Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF (also accepts .doc, .ppt and .xls) |
| Templates needed | No | No; you can pass a file to copy its design |
| Use from an AI agent | You have to wrap it in tools yourself | Ready-made function-calling tools and an [MCP server](/en/agents/mcp) |
| Hosting | Library on your server (no external dependencies) or Aspose's cloud | Hosted service; documents stored in the EU (Ireland) |
| License and price | Commercial: developer, site or metered licenses; trial with a watermark and size limit, plus a 30-day temporary license | Pay per delivered document from a prepaid balance, no annual license; €5 free to start |

## When to choose Aspose

* You need full, low-level control over document content from .NET, Java, C++, Python or Node.js.
* You have to convert between many formats, not just Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF.
* Documents cannot leave your servers: the library runs in your infrastructure.
* Your team already codes each document's structure and prefers a license to pay-per-use.

## When to choose Doconda

* You want to describe the result ("a lease agreement with numbered clauses") or the change ("add a confidentiality
  clause") instead of coding it.
* An AI agent uses it: give it the tools over [MCP](/en/agents/mcp) or the SDK.
* You want to pay only for what is delivered (failed documents are not charged) and start without buying a license.
* You want to [review](/en/guides/review) third-party files and have anything that cannot be fixed listed in a report.

## Using them together

If you already use Aspose for conversions or fixed-structure processes, you can add Doconda for the part that depends on
what a person or an agent asks for: drafting the document, applying changes described in text or reviewing it before
delivery.
