# Doconda vs Docmosis

> Docmosis fills Word templates with your data; Doconda creates, reviews and edits documents from a sentence or your text, with no template first.

**Use Docmosis** if you generate many documents with the same design (invoices, letters, policies) from templates your
team maintains in Word or LibreOffice. **Use Doconda** if the content or structure changes with every document, if you
want to edit or review files that already exist, or if an AI agent will use it.

## Comparison

| | Docmosis | Doconda |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | Template-based document generation platform with an API | API (with Python and TypeScript SDKs and an MCP server) that creates, reviews and edits documents |
| Create | Fills a Word or LibreOffice Writer template with your data: placeholders, conditional content, repeating tables, images, barcodes and QR codes | From a sentence (`prompt`) or your Markdown (`content`), with the style described in plain text |
| Edit existing files | Not its model: it generates new documents from templates | Yes: you describe the change in a Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF file and the rest stays the same |
| Review and repair | Not its goal | [Review](/en/guides/review) returns the same file fixed plus a report |
| PDF | Yes (also DOCX, ODT and TXT) | Every file comes with its PDF |
| Formats | Output in PDF, DOCX, ODT and TXT | Word, PowerPoint, Excel and PDF |
| Templates needed | Yes, one per document type | No; you can pass a file to copy its design |
| Use from an AI agent | You call its REST API from your own tool | Ready-made function-calling tools and an [MCP server](/en/agents/mcp) |
| Hosting | Cloud (on AWS, US, EU and AU regions), Tornado (self-hosted on Linux, Windows or Docker) or a Java library | Hosted service; documents stored in the EU (Ireland) |
| License and price | Commercial. Cloud from \$49/month, by pages per month; 30-day free trial with no card | Pay per delivered document from a prepaid balance, no monthly fee; €5 free to start |

## When to choose Docmosis

* Your documents always share the same design and only the data changes.
* You want non-technical people to maintain the templates in Word.
* You need to self-host the generator (Tornado) or embed it in a Java application.
* You generate large volumes at a fixed monthly cost by pages.
* You need barcodes or QR codes in the document.

## When to choose Doconda

* The content changes with every document: a report, a proposal or a contract drafted from what is asked for.
* You do not want to design and maintain a template per document type.
* You need to [edit](/en/guides/edit) existing files ("change the signing date") or [review](/en/guides/review) them.
* You also work with PowerPoint and Excel (with native charts and real formulas).
* An AI agent uses it over [MCP](/en/agents/mcp) or the SDK.

## Using them together

Docmosis fits repetitive, fixed-design documents; Doconda fits documents drafted or changed case by case. A document
generated with Docmosis can also be sent to Doconda to [edit it](/en/guides/edit) with an instruction when someone asks
for a one-off change.
