# Doconda Editor vs ONLYOFFICE Docs

> ONLYOFFICE Docs is an online editor suite you deploy as a server (or use in its cloud); Doconda's editor plugin is a React component that edits Word, PowerPoint and Excel in the browser, with no document server.

**Use ONLYOFFICE Docs** if you need real-time co-editing, track changes, version history and 60+ formats, and you can
deploy and run its server (or use its cloud). **Use Doconda's editor plugin** if you want your users to open, tweak and
save a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file inside your React app without running any document server: the file is edited in
the browser and is not uploaded anywhere to edit it.

## Comparison

| | ONLYOFFICE Docs | Doconda editor plugin |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | Online editor suite (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, PDF) that you integrate into your site | React component (`@doconda/editor`) you add to your product |
| Server | Needs a running ONLYOFFICE Docs instance, your own or in its cloud | None to edit: everything happens in the user's browser |
| Deployment | Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, Windows, AWS and Alibaba images; on-premise, private cloud or hybrid | `npm install` with your personal link; React 19 or later |
| React | `@onlyoffice/document-editor-react` package; the configuration is signed on your server with a secret key | `<DocondaEditor src={url} licenseKey="ek_…" />`; the license key can live in your site's code |
| Formats | 60+ | Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel (.xlsx) |
| Collaboration | Real-time co-editing, comments, track changes, version history | Comments in Word; one person edits their copy and you decide where to save (`onSave`, `autosave`) |
| Customization | Interface customization and branding options | Theme and colors, language (es/en), labels, which buttons and in what order, your own buttons, removable parts |
| License | Docs Community is open source; Developer Edition has a commercial license and a 30-day trial; also in the cloud | Per organization: monthly, yearly or one-time, with 7 days free; unlimited documents and users, up to 5 domains |

## When to choose ONLYOFFICE Docs

* Several people must edit the same file at once, with track changes and version history.
* You work with many formats (60+), forms or PDF as a core part of the product.
* You want an open-source option (Docs Community) or need everything inside your own infrastructure.
* You don't use React, or you already have a team to run one more service on Docker or Kubernetes.

## When to choose Doconda

* Your app is React and you want a Word, PowerPoint and Excel editor as a single dependency, without deploying or
  scaling a document server.
* You prefer the file not to leave the browser to be edited: open it from a link, a `File` or bytes, and save it
  yourself with `save()` or `onSave`.
* You want the editor to look like part of your product: your colors, your fonts, your toolbar and
[your own buttons](/en/editor/customize#your-own-buttons) such as "Send for signature".
* You already use the Doconda API: the edited file can be saved as a
[new version of the document](/en/guides/edit), with its review and its PDF.
* You want a per-organization price that doesn't count users or documents, and free testing on `localhost`.
