# Doconda Editor vs Syncfusion Document Editor

> Syncfusion's Document Editor is a Word component for React that needs a service on your server to open .docx; Doconda's editor plugin opens and saves Word, PowerPoint and Excel directly in the browser.

**Use Syncfusion Document Editor** if you need a very complete Word editor for React, with track changes and real-time
collaboration, and running its import web service and its per-developer license works for you. **Use Doconda's editor
plugin** if you want to open and save .docx, .pptx and .xlsx in the browser with a single component, with no conversion
service, and pay per organization.

## Comparison

| | Syncfusion Document Editor | Doconda editor plugin |
| - | - | - |
| What it is | Word-like React component, part of Syncfusion's Document SDK | React component (`@doconda/editor`) you add to your product |
| Server | Basic editing runs client-side, but opening a .docx requires converting it to its SFDT format with your own web service (a .NET library); mail merge, spell check or complex conversions may need server-side services | None: opens and saves the .docx, .pptx or .xlsx in the browser |
| Formats it opens | DOCX, DOC, DOTX, DOT, DOCM, DOTM, RTF, SFDT, TXT, XML, HTML | Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel (.xlsx) |
| Formats it saves | DOCX, SFDT, TXT, DOTX (PDF and others with server-side services) | The same format it opened (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx); Word can also be printed or saved as PDF |
| PowerPoint and Excel | Excel with another component (Spreadsheet Editor SDK) | In the same component |
| Collaboration | Real time with cursors and presence, track changes (accept, reject), comments | Comments in Word; one person edits their copy and you decide where to save |
| License | Yearly per-developer subscription; free community license for small companies that meet its requirements | Per organization: monthly, yearly or one-time, with 7 days free; unlimited documents and users, up to 5 domains |

## When to choose Syncfusion Document Editor

* You need track changes and real-time co-editing in Word.
* You open formats Doconda doesn't edit: .doc, .rtf, .dotx or HTML.
* You already have a .NET backend or use other Syncfusion components.
* Your company qualifies for the community license: under USD 1 million in annual revenue, 5 developers or fewer, 10
employees or fewer and never more than USD 3 million in outside funding.

## When to choose Doconda

* You want to open the .docx as is in the browser, with no service converting it and no intermediate format, and keep
whatever the editor doesn't touch (styles, charts, notes) unchanged on save.
* You need Word, PowerPoint and Excel with one component and one license.
* You prefer to pay per organization, without counting developers, users or documents, monthly, yearly or one-time.
* You want to match your brand: theme, colors, fonts, toolbar and [your own buttons](/en/editor/customize#your-own-buttons).
* You already use the Doconda API: the edited file is saved as a [new version of the document](/en/guides/edit), with
  its review and its PDF.
