Use Collabora Online if you want an open-source suite built on LibreOffice, with real-time team editing, ODF and Microsoft formats, hosted on your own infrastructure (or connected to Nextcloud, ownCloud and similar). Use Doconda’s editor plugin if your app is React and you only need users to open, tweak and save a Word, PowerPoint or Excel file without deploying a document server.

Comparison

When to choose Collabora Online

  • Several people need to edit the same file at the same time.
  • You work with open formats (ODF), legacy .doc, .xls or .ppt, or Visio drawings.
  • You want open, auditable source code, hosted on your servers or with a partner.
  • You already use Nextcloud, ownCloud or another platform that has the integration built in.

When to choose Doconda

  • Your app is React and you don’t want to run a document server or set up WOPI: install a package and drop in a component.
  • You prefer the file not to leave the browser to be edited: load it from a link or from memory, and save it wherever you want.
  • You want the editor to look like part of your product: your colors, your fonts, your toolbar and your own buttons.
  • You already use the Doconda API: the edited file is saved as a new version of the document, with its review and its PDF.
  • You want a per-organization price that doesn’t count users or documents, and free testing on localhost.
